Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Ms. Hopkins Tirrell is a senior health care executive with more than 25 years of experience in multiple industry segments including academic medical centers, physician practice management, behavioral health systems and consulting. Ms. Hopkins Tirrell joined the health system in 2014 and is responsible for the faculty group practice’s business and clinical operations. In addition, Ms. Hopkins Tirrell oversees Medical Center ambulatory services clinical and business operations.

Prior to joining GRHealth, Amanda served as Chief Operating Officer for UConn Medical Group providing operational and strategic leadership to the region’s largest multi-specialty faculty group practice. She has served as CEO of several specialty hospitals across the country and led turnarounds focusing on clinical quality, patient safety and service, as well as financial and operational performance improvement. Ms. Hopkins Tirrell holds an MBA in health care management from the Wharton School and is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives.

Interim Vice President- Finance/CFO

Ms. Pearl has been with Augusta University since 2006. In November 2015 she became Assistant VP for Finance with the Medical Associates. She formerly supported the Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer in leading the organizations financial operations, including financial planning, budgeting and accounting in support of the missions of the Augusta University (AU) and the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). On April 1, 2016, Ms Pearl became the Interim VP for Finance/CFO.

VP Ambulatory Care Services, Administration

Mr. Thornton is responsible for overseeing the budgetary and financial management of Ambulatory Care Services. In addition Thornton is responsible for Ambulatory Patient Access Services which includes management of the Call Center, Financial Quality Services, Desk Operations and Emergency Department Registration. Thornton joined the health system in 2001 as Director of Eye Care Services before assuming his responsibilities as Administrative Director of Ambulatory Care Patient Access Services.

Senior Director, Revenue Cycle Management

Ms. Jones has been with the Medical Associates since April 1, 1994. She is responsible for providing strategic direction in support of critical Revenue Cycle initiatives and goals. She leads and manages complex Revenue Cycle projects, drives performance, and provides the overall direction. She oversees the functional areas of the patient support service department and reimbursement department, which both support the financial and operational goals of the revenue cycle.

Director of Administrative Services

Ms. Neville directs and oversees the administrative services department, benefits department, concierge center and patient service center. She also oversees the human resource policies and practices with respect to recruiting, compensation, benefits, performance evaluations and employee performance feedback. She has been with the Medical Associates since 1992.

Director of Managed Care, Provider Relations & Business Operations

Ms. Apfel joined the team in November of 2015. She manages all commercial, Managed Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and government programs line of business. She oversees and facilitates the development, negotiation and administration of all payer contracted arrangements, including contracts with insurance carriers, third party administrators, and self-funded plans. She has over 25 years of working in the Health Insurance side contracting large health systems.

Assistant Director – Coding, Charge Capture and Compliance

Ms. Douglas, former Manager of Audit, Compliance and Documentation Education, took on her new role of Assistant Director – Coding, Charge Capture and Compliance in January of 2016. Janice is a certified professional coder, certified evaluation and management coder, and certified medical auditor. She has been part of the Medical Associates team since 1992, for over 24 years, taking on progressively greater roles and challenges. Janice will oversee the Coding and Charge Capture team and the Audit, Compliance and Documentation Education team.

Assistant Director – Population Health Analytics and Payor Strategies

Ms. Williams supports the activities related to population health management within the hospital’s Provider network. She helps implement the supporting technology infrastructure and associated in the health care setting to achieve triple aim (improve quality, reduce cost, and enhance patient experience). She assists in the development of an evidence-based Population Health Strategic Plan, including undertaking local needs analysis and researching Federal/ State/Regional Population Health trends in funding, program and service delivery.
